The whole idea of G-20Y Summit is that young people bring their ideas that might be controversial, that might be a little provocative, but are fresh. And they share it with the business community. I think and I hope that what we accomplished during these three days will actually be meaningful and will impact the decisions and discussion of G20 leaders.

I just have a habit – wherever someone asks “who?”, I just put my hand up.  And this is not the best habit I have but when they asked the volunteer to be Co-Chair – I just thought that I have relevant experience as a former consultant, as a former Head of Strategy of VTB group and a business leader now. I think I have the relevant experience to talk about financial stability and financial regulation, which was the topic of our committee. And I think it’s a very important topic and it’s really one of the top items on G-20Y Summits agenda. Because without financial stability as we’ve seen before it’s really impossible to deliver growth, to deliver prosperity. I really enjoyed working with our committee members, we had ten people from different countries, different economies: Europe, UK, Russia, Malaysia, and Japan. It was interesting to see what similarities we have, what differences we have and different and similar ideas that we share. I think it really enriched my understanding of the industry at the global level and I believe we were able to deliver some meaningful and practical recommendations.

The most interesting moment for me of the Summit was the dancing master-class, because I’d never thought that you can learn how to dance tango in 30 minutes. I think our teachers did a very good job: very simple moves that everybody could repeat and learn within 30 minutes. It was a very good G-20Y and a very fast delivery of results.

So bringing together business leaders from different industries, geographies, different levels across the G20 – this is interesting. The Co-Chairing was an interesting experience, because in the end of the session you had a different perspective, different people to integrate. I thought about it before doing the Co-Chairing: one of the important things is not to lose somebody during the process.

Arriving here I saw very fascinating group of people, acting together, discussing together and for me the first step towards understanding G-20Y was to see that this is like a market place where international global people can, without borders in thinking, be together and this is for me the most important aspect.

My job was always communication; I’m probably an expert in crisis communications. The working process was wonderful. Because we can see a lot of people from other countries: Brazil, from Malaysia, even from UK –a UK person works in China, he shared his experience in China and also from US. We share all information and all the practices of how to fight corruption in our country. We are very surprised that there is actually only one conference – United Nation Conference about fighting corruption and also UOECD conference against bribery.  But I think not all the countries have ratified and implemented the conference, maybe  we should give some views, some recommendations that all G20 countries and other countries can implement the United Nation Conference and UOECD conference against bribery. There have been discussions that fighting corruption, money laundering and also bribery and financial terrorism are linked together, so every country should be aware about these issues, this not only a problem of developed countries.

My president  attended G-20Y Summit last year in Mexico, he asked senior level manager in Bank Mandiri, he shared his views of G20 of last years, so this is a good opportunity. We are going to send our senior manager to G-20Y Summit.

I think it's a very good opportunity for me to attend G-20Y Summit. This is first time I have attended an international Summit with different views and different subjects. I usually attend workshops or meetings about banking, just only banking but there are more issues we can discuss together.

I think G-20Y is such an important event in the world because as the young leaders we have to tell the world what we think and what we should accomplish in the next few years, because we have a responsibility to make things change and make a better world.

I worked on the “City of tomorrow” Committee – we had a broad issue to talk about, we tried to figure out what the city of tomorrow would be like and one of the things that I’m very happy to see in the result is that we talked about local communities – how we should design the cities of tomorrow with strong local communities where you can actually get involved as a citizen in your community to share services and actually go further with the challenges the city now faces.

The G-20Y events are nice because you actually have a lot of real work during the day it's so much fun to work with a bunch of people from all around the world with different backgrounds – this is very interesting. And then at night you can socialize, talk to those same people by the way with a more personal feel – this makes the entire experience, so much fun.

My favorite event was the opening Gala ceremony. Our company Desjardins, we got an award for our 3-year friendship with the G-20Y. So it was quite nice experience for us to receive that award.

There was no question of whether to participate or not actually when the invitation arrived because, for our company, it is incredibly important what exactly is on G20 agenda, not only this year, but in general. Over the last period of time Unilever was Co-Chairing the “Food security” Committee on the B20 initiatives in Rio with a quite valuable contribution, I hope, to the Communiqué which was produced by this committee. For us food security is not just an empty word and we really look to this agenda and how it’s being approach by the government on the G20 level.

What was specifically interesting about the Summit, actually, was the combination of participants which attended. The executive level of the biggest international corporations and some of the real big and significant Russian corporations, as soon as we are in Russia we are speaking about this, representatives of the international non-governmental organizations as well. I believe, this is an incredible group of people, I believe, team of people, who got together in St. Petersburg are really invested their time, not having to open e-mail and stuff which we left behind in office, but really invested our time, being focused on the agenda, which is with us today; and really trying to share the best ideas, many fresh ideas by the way, the most creative ideas I’ve ever heard, on those important areas of real G20 interests.

The program is really sophisticated: dance master-classes, the whole atmosphere of the classical music, combination of it and really amazing atmosphere of the city itself. It's the best season in the city. I believe it's something that going to be quite memorable.

In my eyes, the G-20Y Summit is a unique opportunity to interact and communicate to motivated young ambitious c-executives; and to also interact with people from other business sectors.

I think it is super important to have the young generation of c-executives round one table at such aconference to exchange ideas,and to forward these ideas to those who are really on the steering-wheel regarding the future of our planet. I believe by havingworked out our papers we can somehow, let’s say contribute to the future and a better development of the world, whereby in our working group`s case especially regarding the financial world.

I believe it was quite useful, quite interesting, even if we were discussing theoretical topics mainly,but this is the purpose of this one. It was in any case also interconnected withreal life and with taking concrete action in the future. I was also able to extend my network, meet interesting people, which I will follow up with in the future. I found it quite useful, also to experience St. Petersburg, which is truly a nice place for this event. I also enjoyed very much the side events.

My favorite one was the yachting regatta – it was really good fun. We had perfect weather, even if we were lacking wind, so we were not really going that fast, but nevertheless it was good fun. Unfortunately we only got the second place – so we were the first loser. But nevertheless it was not really about competition – it was much more about fun and communication. For me it was alsoa nice opportunity to have my daily swim in the Gulf of Finland. I really enjoyed it very much.

G-20Y Summit 2020 Agenda

 

We are at a time where all businesses across all sectors, and even all individuals, have been going through a digital transformation process. Among other things, this requires the transformation of business activities/functions; business processes; business models; business ecosystems; business asset management; organisational culture; ecosystem and partnership models; and customer, worker and partner approaches.

The competitiveness of industry is highly dependent on the knowledge, skills, competencies and creativity of its workforce. There is going to be digitization of the workforce in a way we have never seen before. In 10-15 years, probably less, we will have substantially fewer employees, and the ones we do have will be significantly different from what we have now.

The competitiveness of industry is also highly dependent on customers’ preferences.  To meet changing customer demands industries must create ecosystems increasing customer engagement. It is also vital to digitize customer journeys to enable an ongoing dialogue with customers.

The G-20Y Summit 2020 delegates will come together to discuss these key points and to elaborate Perspectives implementable to businesses that will help to ensure long-term success and sustainable growth.

Re-Thinking Energy Markets Committee

The digitalisation of the energy transition must be supported by new technological developments and upgrade of skills of energy companies and public administration. Given the uncertainty of the economics of the transition, energy companies need to re-invent themselves. The members of the G-20Y Summit 2020 Re-Thinking Energy Market Committee will come together to elaborate proposals around some of the strategic priorities in energy sector:

  • Upskilling the workforce to make it digital-literate
  • Fostering consumer trust and engagement when implementing digital solutions in the energy sector;
  • Becoming more resilient to market volatility and emerging risks, through diversification, advocacy for regulatory frameworks improvements and development of markets for risk-hedging tools;
  • Engaging proactively with regulators and policy makers to work out industry-society win-win solutions and ensure the energy transition unfolds following the most efficient path;
  • Shifting mindset to become more “stakeholder-centric” adapting and anticipating the need and expectations of companies’ stakeholders;
  • Building an ecosystem of partnerships for geographical and business diversification;
  • Boosting operational excellence, i.e. quality and cost, through digital transformation.

The Future of Banking. Beyond Finacial Services Committee.

Every bank is working hard to update its legacy systems and looking to technology to improve operating effectiveness and improve the customer experience. To meet changing customer demands the sucessful bank will need not just offer the same financial services, but will need to establish itself as a “trusted advisor”, creating a utility that encompasses solutions, information, advice and a digital platform where the unique customer can access 24/7. The future bank must design new processes facilitating the needs from the customers perspective. The future customer will utilize a facility that provides choices, added value and a customized experience – basically, a one stop shop for all financial needs and additional related services: it will not be a bank, the future will be a financial ecosystem.

To do so, banks will need significantly deeper and broader technology expertise than they have today. Banks need leaders who understand the kinds of transformation that are possible and can manage change effectively. Emerging technology applications, particularly intelligent automation, are already changing the workforce and are expected to have an increasingly profound impact in the near future.

The members of the G-20Y Summit 2020 Future of Banking Committee will come together to elaborate proposals around some issues related to workforce transformation and impact on customers caused by technology that is radically changing the structure of the financial industry:  

  • Identifying the skills and experience needed to stay competitive;
  • Aligning talent strategy with business strategy;
  • Encouraging investment in transformation. Reinventing the organization: struggle for efficiency—incorporate technology and the “new customer” experience;
  • Shifting bank’s culture; move from hierarchical organizations to other operating models (vertical to horizontal);
  • Managing the impact on customers.

Innovative Insurance and InsurTech Committee

With increasing disruption, and continuous and rapid change, the insurance sector is being transformed - jeopardising traditional business models. The insurance industry needs to evolve recruiting, hiring and development to focus on aptitude and attitude rather than deep industry experience. Gig-economy models should be explored to draw in a more diverse, agile workforce and data science, Artificial Intelligence, robotics and other digital tools need to be embedded in the day-to-day. The level of change management required for the current workforce to support the shift to the future ‘Bionic’ way of working cannot be underestimated or overlooked.

The insurance industry is increasingly customer-centric - the customer is at the core of the business, and insurers must continually innovate to meet their evolving needs to stay competitive.

The members of the G-20Y Summit Innovative Insurance and InsurTech Committee will come together to elaborate proposals around some issues how Insurance companies  can advance employee upskilling and reskilling in order to stay competitive and meet customer expectations:

  • Transforming of people and culture and  leveraging the workforce ecosystem;
  • Reframing the employee value proposition;
  • Establishing insurance as a value-added component of an ecosystem focused on risk management and trusted advisor for customers.

The Future of Jobs Committee

The digital age is promising exciting new ways to work and create value. However, the new skills required to thrive in this new era are in short supply, forcing companies to examine their workforce capabilities. According to PwC’s latest CEO survey, 38% of CEOs globally say they’re extremely concerned about the availability of key skills as a threat to business growth.

By 2020, approximately 80% of all job roles will require digital competencies – yet, only a fraction of the current workforce is digitally native. Job displacement created by skills mismatches has a direct impact on economic output, tax revenue and social security costs. To address this challenge, organisations and governments will need to invest in continuous upskilling and reskilling approaches.

Visionary leaders are needed to champion upskilling initiatives. They need to set a positive vision of what the future jobs will look like, skills required, and can reinforce the long-term business and social elements that sustain growth in their region, country, or industry. To improve the lifelong learning experience, companies need to engage with government, education and community partners.

The members of the G-20Y Summit Future of Jobs Committee will come together to elaborate proposals on how to adress the issues of skills mismatches and how to upskill your workforce to stay competitive in digital era:

  • The role of corporations as learning organizations through reskilling and upskilling efforts;
  • Financing and supporting periodic skills upgrading of the workforce;
  • Are you considered as people leader if you are managing robots? How can human talent be promoted in the new “bionic” corporate environment, where the capabilities of humans and machines are combined to develop more productive operations?
  • What will be the new management structure and leadership model of the “bionic” companies?
  • Social consequences addressing the ethical dilemmas about AI and other innovative and disrupting elements of the 4th Industrail revolution in specific chapters of Ethics and Compliance programs of corporations;
  • How can traditional values, such as civil rights, privacy and democracy be protected in the “smart” companies, cities and societies?
